The city of Mecca in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is considered the holiest site in Islam.
It is the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad in the year 570CE.
It was here that revelations of the Holy Koran began in 610CE.
Mecca is also the focus point of the Haj pilgrimage that takes place annually.
A pilgrimage that each practicing muslim,
health and finances permitting,
is obliged to make at least once in their lifetime.
